SpacetoCo Host since May 2024 · 1k bookings

The Downer Community Association was formed in 1985 (incorporated in 1987) to represent the interests of Downer residents on issues which affect our suburb and surrounding areas. These include local facilities, planning and traffic, development applications, changes to parks and streets, and issues which affect local communities, such as Downer Preschool and the proposed Goodwin independent living development.

About this space

Simultaneous hire of the adjoining East and West Halls provides the best of both worlds - the practical flooring of the East Hall with the soft and comfortable West Hall. These two large spaces are connected with a door and both open onto the secluded garden space, which can be added to your booking.

Whether you have a presentation in the West Hall followed by a meal served in the East Hall and socialising in the garden, or you are simply seeking a multi-use space for large gatherings, this hall/garden combo allows for freedom of activity.

The East Hall seats 50 people comfortably. West Hall seats up to 55, but please note that no food or drink is allowed in this hall.

Experience the versatility of the East and West Halls with the adjoining outdoor space for your next event: the possibilities are endless!

Features:

  • Capacity and Layout: The West Hall features a large open space which is carpeted and quiet, making it suitable for various types of gatherings. The East Hall has a hard, lino-like floor which is perfect for meals and arts & crafts. A craft wash-up sink is located adjacent to the East Hall.

  • Furniture: Both halls offer open floor spaces and tables and chairs which can be arranged to suit your needs. Trestle tables are available for setting up in the outdoor space.

  • Kitchen hire is included in your booking - the Centre has a kitchenette with a stove, microwave, fridge, urns, cups, cutlery, etc. Dishwashing liquid and cleaning cloths provided, but hirers are required to bring their own tea-towels. Please note that the kitchen is available to all hirers in the building and is not for exclusive use.

  • Garden: Both the East and West Halls open onto a fully fenced outdoor garden space with a sandpit, artificial turf and a large shade cloth.

  • Toilet Facilities: Male and female toilets are located within the building for the comfort and convenience of your guests.

  • Accessibility Note: The Centre does not have facilities for disabled toilets. Additionally, the public toilets near the oval have been decommissioned.

  • WIFI and a large whiteboard are available for your use. A data projector can be added to your booking.

  • Emergency Equipment: For safety, an AED (defibrillator) and a First Aid box can be accessed on the left-hand side wall of the kitchen.

Perfect For:

  • Meetings and Workshops: Conduct productive meetings or educational workshops in a focused environment.

  • Presentations and break-out spaces: The variety of spaces are ideal for performances, audiences and pleasant spaces together, both indoor and out.

  • Fitness and Group Gatherings: The open spaces of both halls are ideal for floor-based activities such as yoga, martial arts and dance groups.

  • Small Events and Picnics: Host spacious gatherings, seminars or training sessions with ease and comfort.

  • Hobbies and Art: The numerous tables can be set up for large and small groups and the easy-clean hard flooring of the East Hall is perfect for art, crafts, floristry, planting and more.

  • The West Hall is carpeted and seats up to 55. No food or drink is allowed in this hall.
