These include local facilities, planning and traffic, development applications, changes to parks and streets, and issues which affect local communities, such as Downer Preschool and the proposed Goodwin independent living development.

About this space

Downer Community Centre available for hire!

Rooms included in hiring the whole centre:

  • The East Hall is a practical space, with a hard lino-like floor and seating up to 50. It has double doors opening up to the back garden space and is adjacent to the sink space and the kitchenette. This makes it easy to serve food to the East Hall or to wash up art materials. The East Hall is perfect for multi-age gatherings and is ideal for serving meals, arts & crafts, markets, parent groups, fitness classes and workshops.

  • The spacious West Hall is carpeted and has a soft atmosphere. It seats up to 55, but please note that no food or drink is allowed in this hall. This space is well suited to presentations and performances, yoga classes and large group workshops.

  • Carpeted and cosy, the smaller East Room seats 15-20, so is suitable for meetings or smaller groups.

  • All rooms are presented with open floor space and tables and chairs that you can set up according to your needs.

  • Kitchen and toilet hire is included - The Centre has a kitchen with a stove, microwave, fridge, urns, cups, cutlery, etc. and male and female toilets. When hiring the whole centre, you have exclusive use of the kitchenette and the toilets.

  • The secluded garden area is perfect for outdoor activities and children's play. The garden is fully fenced and there is a sandpit and large sunshade cover, but please note that there is no rain-shelter for the outdoor space. The Centre has trestle tables which can be set up outdoors.

Please note that the Centre does not have disabled toilet facilities and the public toilets near the oval have been decommissioned. An AED/ defibrillator and First Aid box are both affixed to the left hand side wall of the kitchen.
