About this space
The Rotorua Community Hall is owned and operated by the Hindu Heritage Council of New Zealand.
The Hall also provides an economical function space for the Rotorua community, hosting kids parties, dance classes, community groups, church groups, workshops and other gatherings.
This venue is not suitable for 21st parties or weddings because it is a alcohol and meat-free venue. It is located on Malfroy Road, with off-street car parking for about 15 cars.
There are private houses on all of the boundary fences, so we welcome hall users who are respectful of our neighbours.
The main hall space has carpet and is rented as a large open space. It has windows along both sides of the hall, providing ventilation. We are installing heat pumps very soon but in the mean time have 4 stand alone heaters to warm up the space.
There is also a dining hall and kitchen with painted concrete floors. This is where the chairs and tables for use in the main hall are stored. The kitchen is basic, with a domestic oven and hob and a microwave. We have a basic assortment of donated crockery and cookware, but suggest users bring what they need. There is no dishwasher, no tea towels, and no hot water tap (hot water can be heated in the Zip).
We provide rubbish bins, but users need to bring their own rubbish bags and put it into the bins outside.
The Hall has two toilets (mens and ladies) and two entrances. One of these is wheelchair accessible, with ramp acccess. Toilet paper, soap and paper towels are provided.
The Rotorua Community Hall is popular for kids parties, with a plenty of outside space on the property. Users are welcome to hire their own bouncy castle which can sit outside on the grass.
Included in the space hire: 12 x trestle tables, 80 chairs and 2 couches. Smoke alarms, fire hose, fire extinguisher and fire blanket are installed.
We DO NOT provide: projector, whiteboard, screen, rubbish bags, tea towels. Please bring your own. There is basic tea and coffee, and a screen. The hall is managed by volunteers, and staff are normally present on site to meet and greet and open the Hall for you. We do not offer viewings.
The Hall is available for use between 8am and 9pm daily. To maximise use of the space we have a three-hour minimum booking time.
We encourage regular hall users to make use of the space, and offer a discounted rate for regular hires.
Suitable for up to 80 - 90 people seated at tables, or 150 standing or theatre style. Power points are a bit limited, with two in the hall, two up on the stage, one in the kitchen, and one in the dining room. Please bring your own power boards and extension leads.
The kitchen has a serving hatch into the dining room, and a door into the main hall. You are welcome to use the kitchen, or bring in your own caterer, but facilities are basic and we advise bringing most of your food pre-prepared.
We provide basic cleaning supplies, but suggest you bring your own tea towels. You are expected to leave the kitchen, toilets, and the rest of the space, clean and ready for the next user. To keep costs down we rely on users to keep the hall clean.
Sorry but this is an alcohol free zone, as it is also used as a place of worship by the Hindu Heritage Council.
You are welcome to decorate the hall space for your event. Please note the hall must be left as you found it, so all decorations and rubbish - including any outside the hall - must be removed. Please no balloons, confetti or party poppers outside as it is too difficult to clean up.
The outside area offers plenty of space for a bouncy castle. If wanting one inside, the maximum height is 2.7m. It's fine to use an external event hire company if you want to bring your own furniture, decorations etc. All decorations and anything you have brought in for your event must be removed by the end of your booking, we can't accommodate storage or set up/pack down before or after your booking time has ended. Please book the time you need in the hall space to set up, pack down and clean as the hall may be used directly before or after you. If you would like to decorate for your event the day before please also book in for that - set up time must be consecutive with your event booking (eg set up 5-9pm Friday, event 8am-5pm Saturday).
Thanks for supporting the Hindu Heritage Council of New Zealand by booking the Rotorua Community Hall. Information on how to access the hall will be provided to you by email the day before your event once your booking has been approved.
