Opened in November 2023, at Midway Surf Rescue Community Hub, we offer the perfect combination of oceanfront relaxation and professional amenities. Located in the beautiful city of Gisborne Tairawhiti, we offer the perfect location for your wedding.

Offering an ocean-front haven that can comfortably seat up to 100 people we are located right on Midway Beach in Gisborne, this expansive lounge offers breath-taking 180 degree views of the sea, providing a stunning backdrop. No where else in Tairāwhiti can you have a venue that seats this capacity on the beach front.

The 11m x 16m lounge opens onto a 5m deep balcony, and gives you breath-taking views of Midway Beach from Te Kurī-a-Pāoa (Young Nicks Head) to Tuamotu Island. There is a lift in the building ensuring access for everyone.

ALCOHOL

BYO alcohol is permitted for ‘private functions’ where tickets are not sold and alcohol is provided free of charge.

Selling alcohol or tickets to your event with alcohol? You must adhere to the licencing rules set out by the Gisborne District Council and may need to apply for a special licence, please check their website https://www.gdc.govt.nz/consents-and-licenses/alcohol-licensing/license-types#heading-1.

Alcohol MUST stay within the hired room and balcony.

Hirer's Responsibility (Setup, Pack Down, and Cleanup)

It is the hirer's responsibility to set up and pack down the furniture, as well as remove rubbish, leaving the venue in its original condition at the conclusion of the booking. Bookings are all subject to management approval.

Rules

  • The Lounge is to be hired for the purpose specified in your booking only.

  • All music needs to be off by 12:00am and building locked by 12:30am.

  • Cleanup must be completed by 9am the following morning. Hired items must be cleaned and packed for collection on Monday.

  • Midway Surf Rescue Community Hub premises including surrounds is a Smoke Free area. Ensuring your guests comply with the NO SMOKING AND VAPING condition is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. Failure to comply or activation of smoke detectors will result in the forfeiture of your bond or a fee of $350.

  • Driveway to be kept clear of vehicles, except when using for loading purposes.

  • No naked flames of any kind are permitted in the lounge or on the balconies.

  • Behaviour of the hirer and hirer’s guests must always be of a socially acceptable standard while on the Midway Hub premises.

  • This lounge does not have an alcohol sale licence. You must apply to the GDC up to 4 weeks prior for a Special Licence if you wish to sell alcohol at your event. If you supply alcohol free of charge, you do not require a licence. Tickets sold to your event that include food and drink, require a GDC licence. https://www.gdc.govt.nz/consents-and-licenses/alcohol-licensing/license-types#heading-1 This is your responsibility. Events found selling alcohol without the appropriate licence will be shut down immediately.

  • We will take delivery of your alcohol for you if required and store securely in the room on the day of the event. Alcohol cannot be bought into the venue during your event, it must be delivered prior to.

  • Cleanup must be complete by 9AM the following day including rubbish and recycling removal

  • Fire Alarm activations will incur a callout fee of $350

  • Decorations cannot be affixed to the walls, please discuss with us any decorations or promotional material you need to display

  • Invited guests only, no walk-ins permitted

  • BBQ's and spit roasters or any other cooking appliances are not permitted in the room, kitchen or on balconies

  • No underage drinking. No alcohol to be bought onto site other than the delivery for the event.

  • Pets are not allowed other than service dogs

  • We use SpaceProtect to hold a bond while your event is taking place. In most instances, this is a $500 authorisation on your card that is released at the end of your event providing all goes well.

  • To keep our Hub safe, there are security cameras operating on the premises both inside in the common shared spaces and around the exterior of the facility. No cameras are inside any hired rooms.

    Access is securely held by the Hub Manager and Tahu Management, it is not made public under any circumstances. Footage will be made available to police if requested.

  • Responsibilities of the Parties

a. The Venue Owner agrees to provide the venue in good condition and provide equipment or services as agreed upon.

b. The Hirer agrees to comply with any rules or regulations related to the use of the venue, including but not limited to: No Smoking or Vaping on the Venue Owner property, no pets other than approved service animals, good conduct of guests and respect to other tenants in the facility, no illegal activities.

c. The Hirer is required to be aware of and comply with the Sale & Supply of Alcohol Act 2012. Fact sheet is available. If alcohol is being sold a Special Liquor Licence must be obtained from GDC. The drinking of alcohol is in designated lounge only. No alcohol is allowed in the lower grounds or ground floor entrance area. Drinks cannot be taken into the hallway or into Tahu and vice versa.

d. The Hirer is responsible for providing any necessary event insurance.

e. Both the Venue Owner and Hirer have obligations under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 2015 and related regulations Prior to and /or on arrival [Management] will provide the Health and Safety induction brief including hazards evacuation and emergency procedures . As the person organising this event, for the Hirer’s company or personal group YOU are the person responsible for ensuring your onsite representatives (and any sub-contractors) are also made aware of these obligations. Your main contact person on premise, is then responsible for ensuring all your guests/delegates are aware of the Health & Safety Policy, hazards and evacuation processes.

  1. The Venue Owner may end your function before the function end time in the case of an emergency, or if there is a case of serious disorder, or where you materially breach any of your obligations under this agreement.

  2. Liability and Indemnification

a. The Hirer is responsible for any injuries that occur during the event and agrees to indemnify the Venue Owner against any claims arising from the event.

b. The Hirer is responsible for any damage caused to the venue or its contents and will be liable for the cost of repair or replacement.

Host's Cancellation Policy
100% refund on cancellations up until 21 days before your booking. After that, cancel and get a 75% refund.
Parking and Public Transport Information

No public transport in the area. 5 minute taxi from Airport or to town. Free parking in the carpark adjacent and on surrounding streets.
