About this space
Beautiful and spacious community hall for hire in the heart of Grey Lynn. The hall has bamboo floors, lots of natural light and is suitable for many different uses. It opens out through french doors on to a sunny courtyard and playground area. The Hall is ideal for community groups, dance and fitness classes, weddings and celebrations, presentations, film screenings, huis, workshops and training, small concerts and choir rehearsals. Please note that the room capacity is up to 200 people sitting on a theatre style setting and placing any other furniture or the need to move around the room will reduce this capacity. Pricing
Weekday: $45
Weekend: $68 - this rate will be automatically charged if you book on a weekend.
Public Holiday: $68 - this rate will be applied after your booking is confirmed.
Please be aware that when making a booking your times are all inclusive, meaning that you need to book times from when you enter the room to when you leave the room.
Additional charges
For all bookings that are after 10pm on a weeknight or 9pm on a weekend, an additional Night Service fee of $26 per hour applies.
For all bookings that are on a public holiday, an additional Custodial Service fee of $26 per hour plus our weekend rate applies.
A $250 bond will be applied to all bookings. It is automatically held and returned within 4 working days of your event. See more details in the SpaceProtect Section below for how this works.
Noise
We ask all our hirers to be mindful when entering and living the premises or gathering in the communal areas, although there could be some incidental noise. If this is an issue during your time at the centre please do not hesitate to address this with the custodian. Alternatively, please contact us and we will work with you to best enable the success of your booking.
Food & Drink
The hall has access to a kitchen which has a serving hatch into the hall. You're welcome to use the kitchen for self catering your event or with external caterers. Please note that other facility users have access to the kitchen space to make tea, coffee etc. Included in the kitchen there is a sink, water boiler, fridge, oven and stove top, microwave and dishwasher. You will need to bring your own cutlery, glassware, crockery and cooking and serving equipment.
You are welcome to serve alcohol at your event, although please note that the cleaning service is mandatory for all events that serve alcohol. If you intend to sell alcohol at your event, please make sure you have purchased a license from Auckland Council. Presenting
We have a projector and large 2m wide mobile screen that can be hired additionally for presentations. Please add this at checkout. The AV connectors are HDMI and VGA.
Decorations and Parties
You are welcome to decorate the hall space for your event. However, you cannot use pins or tape or anything that would damage the hall walls. Blu tac is OK. Please note the hall must be left as you found it, so all decorations - including ties must be removed. Please no confetti, rice or party poppers in the outside area. The hall space is large enough for a bouncy castle. It's fine to use an external event hire company if you want to bring your own furniture, table cloths, drapes etc. All decorations and anything you have brought in for your event must be removed by the end of your booking, we can't accommodate storage or set up/pack down before or after your booking time has ended. Please book the time you need in the hall space to set up, pack down and clean as the hall may be used directly before or after you.
We do accept 21st birthday parties in the hall but you must employ security. We have a preferred supplier, please let us know at checkout and we will liaise with you to arrange this.
Cleaning
The hall must be left as you found it. If you cannot commit to doing this, please purchase the cleaning option at checkout. This is mandatory for events serving alcohol.
Music
You're welcome to play music, use speakers, have a band or a DJ for your event. The hall has excellent acoustics for live music. There are power outlets to supply for sound and lighting. All amplified sound must finish by 11pm. The hall has no speaker system, so you will need to bring in a PA if you need one for your event. If you are playing amplified sound, then please keep the doors shut as we have residential neighbours.
Location
Grey Lynn Community Centre is located on Richmond road in a cluster of neighbourhood shops and eateries. We're lucky to be surrounded by some of Auckland's best cafes and there are plenty of options nearby for your lunch and coffee break or after event drinks.
Access
The hall and kitchen have wheelchair access and there is an accessible toilet on the ground floor. There will always be a staff member present to let you in for your booking. There are 2 accessible car parking spaces. There is also a baby changing and a small semi private breastfeeding area.

Please note that the decking and playground areas are shared communal areas and bookings DO NOT have exclusivity of use

If you set off the fire alarm, there may be a fine if the fire service are called

No Sellotape, Blutack, push-pins, tacks or nails to be used on the walls
You can use Blutack on the wooden walls
Please remove any strings or Blutack might have used to fix the decorations before the end of your booking
The Hall must be left as you found it, there are cleaning tools available on request
There is no rubbish disposal at the facility, please remove all rubbish from your event

Additional details
The centre has 20 free private car parking spaces, that are first come first serve to all our centre users. There is lots of free residential parking within a 5 minute walk of the centre. The centre is on the 105 bus route that connects Westmere and the CBD.
